WHAT IS SUBBUTEO?

Subbuteo is a tabletop football game in which players simulate association football by flicking miniature players with their fingers. The name is derived from the neo-Latin scientific name Falco subbuteo (a bird of preycommonly known as the Eurasian hobby), after a trademark was not granted to its creator Peter Adolph (1916–1994) to call the game "Hobby".

While most closely associated with the football game, versions of Subbuteo based on other team sports such as cricket, both codes of rugby and hockey have also been produced.

ABOUT OUR CLUB

2539-HRTFSC-Logo-01.jpg

Formed by former West Ham United youth player Gerry Harrington in July 2020 along with his son Joe and son in law Adam Moss the club has grown and has reached double figures in membership.

Gerry, who first played Subbuteo in 1972 saw a post on Facebook about how the game was starting to grow again and that there was a huge interest. He decided to set up the Haverhill Rovers Table Football and Subbuteo Club and with his own Facebook page the club grew to where it is today. Just recently the club was featured on BBC1's Look East and Gerry himself was interviewed on BBC Radio 5 Live, BBC Radio 2 and TalkSport.

With the help of Peter Betts at Haverhill Rovers Football Club where the club was based the club has grown and grown and Gerry said "It’s fantastic, it allows like minded people to meet make new friends and personally has helped my mental health"

The club has now moved to the Ex Servicemens Club in the town.

Everyone at the club would also like to thank Alan Lee of The Wobbly Hobby Shop for his help in setting up the club and his continued support.
